A Splendid Note from Liene:

I’ve been fortunate to have worked with wedding pros from 94 countries over my career and I’ve heard from a ton of them this past month – all with similar questions, stories of lost business, uncertainties of what to say to clients who are completely stressed.⁣

We’re all in this together. If you have questions on Coronavirus and your wedding business, feel free to email me at hello@thinksplendid.com.

⁣I’ll be sharing my answers here on the Think Splendid blog so that everyone can benefit.⁣ I’ll also keep your name anonymous. Totally free, no strings attached – I truly do not care if you never hire me.

Focus on the Splendid

We're an industry that makes our living by celebrating life's milestones, and I’ve been starting each post with a couple of positive COVID-19 related things we can all smile about.

Today’s post, however, is only good things: some heartwarming stories, some interesting, non-depressing pieces of news, some doses of humor if you need a laugh, etc.

Total Global Recoveries

The number of global recoveries is now more than 973,000 people, up from 894,000 on Tuesday.

Kanye West’s Teenage Art Portfolio Was Found on Antiques Roadshow

From W Magazine: “It's relatively common knowledge among Yeezy fans that Kanye West and Virgil Abloh were once interns at Fendi's office in Rome. But it wasn’t until PBS aired the latest episode of Antiques Roadshow on Tuesday that many of his devotees learned a new bit of Kanye trivia: Once upon a time, back in his teens, West was an accomplished fine artist. He even received a scholarship to Chicago’s American Academy of Art.”

$2 Million Worth of Wagyu Beef is Heading to San Francisco’s Food Banks and Hospitals

From Vice:Snake River Farms recently made a ridiculously generous donation to food banks in the Bay Area, transporting $2 million worth of its American Wagyu beef from Idaho to northern California. That massive delivery will be cut into 35,000 individual 10-ounce steaks—which would retail for $60 each—and then distributed to the San Francisco-Marin Food Bank, La Cocina, Meals on Wheels, and Self Help for the Elderly.”

The World’s Biggest Film Festivals Unite for an Online Streaming Event

From Vogue Arabia: “More than 20 film festivals around the world will be joining forces to stream movies for free on YouTube, kicking off in the end of May. Due to the current global lockdown, a host of cinemas and annual showcases in Cannes and New York were canceled bringing the annual international film festivals to a screeching halt.

The 10-day We Are One: A Global Film Festival will feature content curated by the Berlin, Cannes, Sundance, Toronto, Tribeca, and Venice film festivals, among many others. The festival, starting on May 29, will be a free streaming ad-free event that will include everything from films, shorts, documentaries, comedy,  music and conversations.”

How Loops Are Changing the Sound and Business of Rap Productions

From Pitchfork: “The popularity of loops, on some level, is a reaction to the increasingly complex legal and financial barriers placed on sampling pre-existing recordings in new songs, a cornerstone of early hip-hop production . . . .

"Loopmakers are still something like an open secret of the industry, but as they become more prevalent, the line between loopmaker and full-fledged producer may start to blur. “Loopmakers are gonna be running the industry,” Jetsonmade predicts. “There’s gonna be one loopmaker who got the sauce on the melodies and the drums too. It’s just gonna take that one to do it.”

Dior Launches Podcast Celebrating the Inspiring Women Who Shaped the Life of the Legendary Designer

From Harper's Bazaar UK:Dior is answering our call for more stimulating cultural entertainment during this period of lockdown by releasing a series of podcasts celebrating the women who inspired and nurtured the fashion house's legendary founder.

The series of four episodes - titled Mes Chéries: The Women of Christian Dior - features former Harper's Bazaar editor-in-chief Justine Picardie in conversation with Oriole Cullen, curator of modern textiles and fashion at the V&A Museum. The four episodes were recorded at the famed London museum, which played host to the record-breaking Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams exhibition last year.

Dior has also provided further - more visual - lockdown entertainment by re-releasing a documentary exploring the couturier's life and work, featuring archive footage from inside his atelier in 1949.”
